Lawn Area Measurement

The simplest measurement method is to pull out your “plat of survey” to obtain your lot dimensions. If your lot is square or rectangular, multiply the two dimensions together (Total Area = L X W). Note, this is the total area, not the lawn area.

Now, compare this number to the total lawn area coverage of the Lawnbott models. If the area is less than the smallest Lawnbott coverage area (33,000 square feet), then you know the lawn area will also be smaller and any Lawnbott will have the coverage you need. For example, let’s say you have a typical quarter acre lot that is 90 ft X 120 ft. The area is 90 X 120 or 10,800 square feet. This is far less than 33,000 square feet, so you know every Lawnbott will be suitable.

However, if the area you calculate from your plat is close to or more than the area for the model you are interested in, a few extra steps are needed. You will need to account for the house, driveway and any other areas the Lawnbott will not mow and subtract these areas from the Total Area. If the house, driveway, etc. dimensions are not noted on the plat, you can measure them with a tape measure, or estimate them by walking. If your house is an irregular shape, the simplest method is to estimate it as a rectangle. In the figure below, the rectangle around the house is represented by dashed lines.

Now, you take the total area, subtract the area estimate for the house and subtract the area of the driveway. The result is an estimate of the lawn area, which you can now compare to the Lawnbott specifications. If your lawn area is larger than the area specified by the Lawnbott you are interested in, then consider purchasing an extra battery to expand the range (note: not for LB2000).
